Ultimate Edition 5.4 - A fair release with a few rough edges

It has been 3 weeks since the release of Ultimate Edition 5.4, latest stable update of Debian and Ubuntu based GNU/Linux distribution trying to deliver ultimate user experience to the end users. This distribution is well known for it's large collection of applications.

Mr Jack M. Germain has written a detailed review of Ultimate Edition 5.4. This review travels through different sections of the system in detail. Just before starting the review, he express his disappointment caused by nonavailability of budgie desktop despite of promise made in original release announcement. In his opinion, the default desktop environment with Ultimate Edition, ie, MATE Desktop is not a good choice for ultimate operating system.

I was not thrilled with my initial hands-on experiences in getting acquainted with Ultimate Edition 5.4. I found an annoying list of things wrong with it.
With many years of reviewing Linux distros under my belt, I have noticed a solid connection between first impressions of a distro's website and lasting impressions of a distro's performance. Let's just say that the website's disorganized condition, in this case, carries through in this distro's latest release.

One small example: I found no list anywhere of the minimum installation requirements for hardware. That proved to be frustrating. I wasted time trying to load Ultimate Linux on several aging computers. Some of the issues were memory- and storage space-related. Other issues involved graphics card inadequacies.

Ultimate Edition 5.4 released based on Ubuntu 17.04; Budgie is also included

Mr TheeMahn, developer of Ultimate Edition has announced release of Ultimate Edition 5.4, latest stable build of Ubuntu 17.04 based GNU/Linux distribution which offers a variety of applications and well customized look & feel. Considering the popular demand from users, this release also includes Budgie Desktop - an emerging desktop environment based on GNOME stacks. Budgie is not set as default desktop, but users can select it while logging into the system.

Ultimate Edition 5.4 is build using packages from recently released Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus, and the Tmosb (TheehMan's Operating System Builder), a custom tool developed by Tmosb, which can create more than 3000 varieties of operating system from Ubuntu packages. Being a regular release based distribution, Ultimate Edition 5.4 won't be a long term supported release.

Ultimate Edition 5.4 is expected to be more like a testing release, and in near future, another 5.5 version will be released based on Ubuntu 17.04 itself.

What is Ultimate Edition 5.4?  Ultimate Edition 5.4 was built from the Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus tree using a combination of Tmosb (TheeMahn’s Operating System Builder) & work by hand.  Tmosb is also included in this release (1.9.8), allowing you to do the same. It has the capabilities to build over 3000 Operating Systems.  This release ISNOT a Long Term Supported (LTS) release.

Currently I have only built the tip of the iceburg, I have began and finished building Ultimate Edition 5.4 & can build 5.5 based on Zesty (17.04).  Our beta besters asked for inclusion of Bungie & I have made it so.  I try and listen to my people.  This release has “Budgie” desktop, however not set as default.

Ultimate Edition 5.1 Final released with KDE Plasma

The Ultimate Edition development team has announced release of Ultimate Edition 5.1, latest stable release of Ubuntu/Debian based custom GNU/Linux distribution which tries to provide an operating system capable of serving basic computer needs for all kind of users.

Ultimate Edition 5.1 is built on top of Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus core, using Tmosb(Theemahn's Operating System Builder). An updated version of Tmosb is included with this release which can be used to build upto 3000 operating systems. Since based on an LTS release of Ubuntu, this release of Ultimate Edition is also a LTS release which will be supported till 2019. This release is featuring KDE Plasma as default desktop environment.

A Development Preview of Ultimate Edition 5.1

What is Ultimate Edition 5.1?  Ultimate Edition 5.1 was built from the Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerius tree using a combination of Tmosb (TheeMahn’s Operating System Builder) & work by hand.  Tmosb is also included in this release (1.9.7), allowing you to do the same.  Tmosb 1.9.8 has also been uploaded allowing you to build up to Zesty over 3000 Operating Systems.  This release IS a Long Term Supported (LTS) release, supported until the year 2019.  This release is most certainly worthy of the Ultimate Edition title.  I hate KDE.  No news there, but I believe I spent a ton of time refining it to make our users happy.  Did I mention I hate KDE?  Looks too much like that other Operating System.

Ultimate 5.0 Gamers Edition released

Mr Theehman, core developer of Ultimate OS has announced release of Ultimate 5.0 Gamers edition, latest stable release of Ubuntu based GNU/Linux distribution specifically developed for gamers. This release ships numerous games of reasonable quality.

Ultimate Edition 5.0 Gamers is mainly targeting hard core gamers and you may not find it pretty as the regular releases. During the development, Theehman and Mcginnis has worked hard to strip down the OS to the core and then various packages were included to serve the needs of a gamer.

The Gamers OS gives optimal performance when it is installed and some of the games shipped will require heavy data download (upto 5 GB) and proprietary graphical drivers. While some other games are very simple and can run without special graphic card drivers.

I don’t typically have time to play games, that may change in the future. With a AMD RyZen CPU & Vega GPU on my Itinerary. Both free, I will sell AMD stock to get both for free. I paid 0 for the stock is how it is free. Let me try and queue you in. I convinced a co-worker to invest in AMD back when it was $6.97 a share November 21st I believe at $30,000 (4,043 shares). I did not ask for money. He offered me 2 days later $5,000 for the tip. I turned it down. I wanted stock. I have stock in AMD. I know where they are going. As a bonus to him I will tell him when to sell.
