Kali Linux 2017.1 released with cool features and updates

Kali Linux team has announced release of Kali Linux 2017.1, latest updated snapshot of Debian based, rolling GNU/Linux distribution used for security assessments and penetration testing.

Just like any other updated snapshots, this release also includes updated packages, newer version of Linux kernel, and other fixes. Besides these, Kali Linux 2017.1 introduces ships some new tools and provides better hardware support.

Some of the cool features and updates included in Kali Linux 2017.1 can be summarized as:
  • Support for RTL8812AU Wireless card injection - Kali Linux 2017.1 has implemented a feature request for supporting RTL8812AU Wireless card. Since Linux Kernel does not support this device, some kind of Kernel modification is done by Kali Linux team. This is an important device in the area of wireless network penetration testing.
  • Streamlined support for CUDA GPU cracking - Installing proprietary hardware drivers was always a pain in Kali Linux. Driver installation process has improved and now can provide better support for graphics cards.
  • Kali Linux image availability of Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure. Considering the increasing popularity of password cracking based on cloud platforms, now Kali Linux ships cloud installation images.
  • OpenVAS 9 is now available in Kali Linux - Kali Linux was lacking a full fledge vulnerability scanner. To fill this long standing gap, Kali Linux team has packed OpenVAS 9 in repositories.
