Simplcity Linux 16.07 released

The Simplicity Linux team has announced release of Simplicity Linux 16.07, latest stable release of LXPuppy/Debian based GNU/Linux distributions that is dedicated to provide user friendly operating system targeting absolute newbies.

As usual Simplicity Linux 16.07 comes in different flavors. Mini and Desktop editions are based on LXPup and it features LXDE to offer lightweight user experience. Additionally Simplicity ships AntiX/Debian based distribution as an experiment. This release also features LXDE desktop and functionally it is more close to mini edition.

As mentioned earlier, you can test our most experimental version of Simplicity Linux to date, X 16.07. This version is still in the very early stages of development. It is based on the excellent AntiX, which in turn is Debian based. Whilst we still have a lot of love for Puppy Linux and all it’s derivatives, sometimes it’s hard to make certain packages work, especially newer packages. This is just the first test of whether or not we’re going to move to a Debian base for Simplicity, a version of Mini. For 16.10 we’re planning on building a Desktop edition. However at the moment, it is just a sneak peek at a direction Simplicity Linux may move towards in the future, and we’d love for our users to try it out and let us know what you think.

Simplicity Linux is more than a Puppy clone : Review

Simplicity Linux is a Puppy based(more specifically LXPup based), lightweight GNU/Linux distributions. It comes in three different flavors, Mini and Desktop editions are shipped with latest stable software packages, while X is packed with bleeding edge packages.

The Linux Insider portal has published a review of Simplicity Linux, by taking recently released Simplicity Linux 16.04 into consideration. This review remarks that, Simplicity Linux is more advanced and user friendly comparing to other Puppy derivatives. Though, at the bottom line, being Puppy based, it requires more learning comparing to other Debian based GNU/Linux distributions.

Simplicity Linux delivers a simpler way to run a fully powered Linux desktop on any computer you touch.

It is derived from Puppy Linux. Two beta versions released in March offer experimental approaches that stray from the distro's standard releases.

If you're familiar with Puppy Linux but have not yet taken Simplicity for a walk, you're missing out some interesting Linux computing experiences. Puppy Linux is a unique distro brand made for both new and old home-user computers. It was created by Barry Kauler in 2003 and continues to thrive with avid users.

Simplicity Linux is more than a Puppy Linux clone. Beyond the look and feel of the Puppy desktop, Simplicity provides a more rigorous release schedule with options and some innovations not typically found in the Puppy doghouse.

Simplicity Linux 16.04 released

The Simplicity Linux team announced release of Simplicity Linux 16.04, latest stable release of Puppy based, lightweight, user friendly GNU/Linux distribution. This release of Simplicity Linux is delayed a little bit due to unexpected hardware failures on production machine.

Similar to recent release of Simplicity, this release also based on LXPup and features LXDE as desktop environment. Simplicity mini and desktop editions comes with Linux Kernel 4.0.4 and the bleeding edition X comes with Linux Kernel 4.4.5.

As with our previous releases, Mini (Previously Simplicity Linux Netbook Edition) is our heavily cut down version. It comes with Flash preinstalled, the latest version of Firefox, and web versions of Spotify, Dropbox, Gmail, Google Docs and many other applications. Desktop is our fully featured distribution, based on the same base as Mini but rather than web based applications; it comes loaded with Flash, Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, GIMP, and Mplayer.

Simplicity Linux 16.04 Beta Released

The Simplicity Linux team announced release of Simplicity Linux 16.04 Beta, latest development release of Puppy based, fully functional, lightweight GNU/Linux distribution. This development release of Simplicity Linux comes with Linux Kernel 4.4.4.

The biggest change from the Alpha to the Beta release of 16.04 is that it is now running the 4.4.4 kernel.  We would love any feedback from users on how it’s performing for them, as we’ve found it to be very stable, but we only have a small amount of hardware to test on, so more feedback would be invaluable.

Mini is our cut down version of Simplicity which shares the same base as our X and Desktop versions, but with a lot of software removed and replaced by web based versions.  It comes with Google Docs, Spotify, TuneIn Radio, Dropbox, Twitter and Facebook.

As always, these are very rough versions of Simplicity Linux 16.04 and may not behave the way you expect them to. This being said, we’ve been using various versions on our production machine for the last couple of weeks without any problems.

Feel free to download any or all of them and play around with them.  And don’t forget to let us know what you think in a comment or if you find any bugs while you try them so we can get them patched before the final release.
