However, now it is time to make a recall. The elementary OS has become a mature operating system and is ready to use on production environments. It has developed it's own ecosystem and has a number of volunteer application developers. To denote the stability of the operating system, the team has decided to give a version number above one 1.0 for upcoming release. Considering the previous releases and to avoid confusions in future, elementary OS Juno will be given version number 5.0
Considering the previous trends, elementary OS 5.0 Juno is expected to release a few months after the release of it's base distribution, ie, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS which is scheduled to arrive on April 2018.
The team will also focus on integrating redesigned payment mechanism with AppCenter, so that serious app developers can make a reasonable income from their apps.
The team is also aiming to continue to improve the HiDPI experience in Juno since several underlying components have received HiDPI fixes. Also, there might be new capabilities like Night Light daemon.

Let's have a quick walk through of various questions answered in elementary blog post.
1) Why it is assigned with version number 5.0 instead of 0.1, 0.2, ..etc 0.4 like it's predecessor?
When the first version of elementary OS created, the team was not confident enough to give it a version number 1.0 - which gives a feel of a perfect stable release. Due to this lack of confidence, elementary team decided to give it a version number 0.1. This approach was followed in later releases. However, now it is time to make a recall. 2) When it is getting released
Unlike many other major GNU/Linux distributions, elementary OS does not provide a clear cut off date on which the OS will be released. Instead the policy is more like, it will be released when it is ready.Considering the previous trends, elementary OS 5.0 Juno is expected to release a few months after the release of it's base distribution, ie, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS which is scheduled to arrive on April 2018.
3) What are planned features?
In general, when a new elementary release arrives there will be a change in underlying technology stack, which is Gtk and mutter for elementary OS. In addition to that, it will make use of modern hardware stack with a newer version of Linux Kernel.
4) What would be the feature of Loki?
The elementary OS 0.4 Loki will be entering in maintenance state while Juno development is in progress. It means, there won't be any feature additions in Loki. However, Loki users can enjoy stability & security related updates to make sure that system is never compromised. You can read original story introducing elementary OS 5.0 Juno in projects blog.
