The Black Lab Linux team has announced release of Black Lab Linux 8.0 Alpha 4 for testing. Black Lab 8.0 Alpha 4 which is known by the code name Onyx is 4th development release of upcoming stable Black Lab Linux 8.0.
The final release of Black Lab Linux 8.0 is scheduled on december 2016 and this release introduces some significant change in strategy followed by Black Lab Linux so far. Instead of providing a complete desktop operating system with all essential applications, Black Lab Linux 8.0 will be relying more on web applications, so that it will function as a cloud centered operating system. On top of this cloud centered operating system, users can install any software of their choice, provided it is available in Debian repositories. In addition to this strategic change, Black Linux 8.0 also options to users for configuring their desktop.
Moving towards a cloud oriented operating system will help Black Lab to ship a small core operating system, which will be easy to update, will help to provide long term software support and reuse older hardware resources.
