Chakra Linux 2017.03 Goedel released with refreshing look & feel

The Chakra Linux team has announced release of Chakra Linux 2017.03, latest stable snapshot of semi-rolling GNU/Linux distribution that comes with stable core and rolling packages. This release is named as Goedel, after Kurt Goedel, an Austrian born American logician, philosopher and mathematician.

Chakra 2017.03 is coming with two notable changes and other updated packages. Following are notable changes in Chakra 2017.03.

• Calamares - a system independent installation framework - has been updated to version 3.0.1.91 which supports installation in brtfs and LUKS encrypted partitions. It also includes improved partition system and several bug fixes.
• The Heritage theme - A plasma theme developed by Chakra - has got several refinements which makes it more refreshing. Chakra Linux has announced this refinement in a separate blog post.

This release also includes updated packages from Chakra repositories which includes Linux Kernel 4.8.6 and Plasma 5.9.2. Existing Chakra users can perform regular system update to get all improvements as per latest snapshot.

Chakra 2016.02 'Ian' Released

The Chakra Linux team announced release of Chakra 2016.02, latest stable snapshot of GNU/Linux distribution employing a semi rolling release model. This release of Chakra is named as 'Ian' after Debian founder Ian Murdock.

Chakra 2016.02 does not have significant changes comparing to previous snapshot other than updated collection of software packages.

A Review of Chakra Linux 2015.11 'Fermi' Review

The EverydayLinux portal has published a review of recently released Chakra Linux 2015.11 'Fermi'. Chakra is an Arch based rolling GNU/Linux distribution featuring KDE as default desktop.

Chakra Linux shares a lot of similarities with Arch Linux although it isn't based on it and the packages are not compatible between the two systems.

I tend to steer clear of Arch Linux on this site because whilst it is clearly a great project in the minds of a lot of users it also requires a higher level of competency when compared with the likes of Ubuntu, Mint, Zorin and PCLinuxOS.

Chakra also requires a certain amount of skill to use. When I first started using it I did get to the stage where I wondered exactly who the target audience for Chakra is. Arch has a huge set of repositories and if you really want to get your hands dirty would you not just use Arch? In which case, what is the point of a similar distribution that is smaller in terms of the size of community?

Chakra 2015.11-Fermi Released

Chakra GNU/Linux developers announced release of Chakra 2015.11-Fermi, latest milestone of Arch based GNU/Linux distribution that comes with powerful KDE desktop and Qt framework.

Chakra 2015.11-Fermi comes with some notable changes which includes following:

Calamares a new modern installer which is actively developed, has replaced Tribe, which has served Chakra well over the years but it was becoming very outdated.

A new repository structure, which inludes changes aiming at simplifying things for both developers and users. All our stable repositories, including 'gtk', are now enabled by default.

A new display manager, SDDM, which is very well integrated with Plasma 5.

New artwork, codenamed 'Heritage' , which is a fork of the very successful Caledonia artwork, together with new wallpapers.
