The Ubuntu team has announced availability of Ubuntu 14.04.5, fifth minor release in Ubuntu 14.04.x LTS Trusty Tahir series. This release announcement is applicable for Desktop, Server, Cloud and Core editions of Ubuntu and also other official community flavors.
Ubuntu 14.04.x being an LTS(Long Term Supported) release will continue to provide support till 2019. This support includes minor package updates and critical bug fixes. Following the same policy Ubuntu 14.04.5 also brings several updated packages and bug fixes. Additionally, Ubuntu 14.04.5 ships updated version of Linux Kernel to provide better hardware support.

We have expanded our hardware enablement offering since 12.04, and with4.04.5, this point release contains an updated kernel and X stack forew installations to support new hardware across all our supportedrchitectures, not just x86.For more details see release announcement and release notes for community flavors.
As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updatednstallation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need toe downloaded after installation. These include security updates andorrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintainingtability and compatibility with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
