Solus project plans a point release 1.2.1 on mid of July

Following release of Solus 1.2, Solus project has announced plan to release a point release with version number 1.2.1. Solus 1.2.1 won't be a mere bug fix release, instead it will be a feature release with some more refinements and new features from project's todo list.

Solus 1.2 was a major milestone in this independently evolved GNU/Linux distributions two year history. It was released with a lot new features, bug fixes and software optimizations. It included refinements in it's flagship desktop Budgie, a completely rewritten Software App to be aligned with user expectations, and a lot of software optimizations to exploit special features on underlying hardware. Also, Solus 1.2 was the first GNU/Linux distribution that shipped Arc Icon theme, which is still under heavy development, as default icon theme.

One of the biggest specialty of Solus is long term visions of Ikey, the key developer of Solus. He has his own ideas of an ideal operating system. In some discussions and blog posts he has already shared his ideas and visions on operating system. So towards this goal, Solus 1.2.1, the upcoming point release of Solus will introduce some new features which are briefly explained below.

Advance storage configuration

This is a feature introduction planned on Solus installer. The plan is to implement support for advanced storage configurations like RAID, LVM/LUKS and also full disk encryption option. So this will help users to easily configure their file systems and to choose whether they want to encrypt their file system to limit access to the data or not.

Full iBus support

Solus 1.2.1 will better support for different language. A complete iBus support will help input methods for different Asian languages like Chinese / Chinese Phonetic, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese.

Improvement in Software Center

Solus Software Center was completely rewritten in Solus 1.2 to avoid unnecessary memory usage and delays. Now, Ikey is planning to take it to next level by providing better option to install third party software packages. Also software center will check for updates in background and notify users if updates are available.
