Today we are pleased to announce the release of Black Lab Linux MATE
6.1. Black Lab Linux MATE 6.1 is a distribution of Black Lab Linux that
utilizes the Mate Desktop environment.
Developed by users for Arch Linux the Mate Desktop is a continuation of
GNOME 2 that has support for GTK2 and GTK3 applications. Frustrated by
the inconsistencies and lack of polish of the GNOME3 desktop environment
the Mate Desktop team set out to develop a desktop that continued with
the reliability of GNOME2 while enhancing it with modern technologies.
They have created one of the most widely accepted competitors to GNOME3.
